Your steps stay on your phone.
Summit Steps has no accounts and no sign-up. The app reads your steps on your device, works out how far along the trail you are on your device, and keeps the result on your device. This page explains the detail.
What the app reads
- Steps and walking distance, from Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android, once you allow it. This is what moves you along your trek.
- Hiking and walking workouts, only if you tap “Find hikes in Health” to compare a real hike with a trek. The app asks for this permission at that moment, not before.
Summit Steps never writes to Apple Health or Health Connect. You can skip the Health connection and log steps by hand instead.
Where it is kept
Your trek progress, postcards, streak, hikes and settings are stored in the app on your phone. We don’t upload your health data, we don’t use it for advertising, and we don’t share or sell it.
Purchases
Summit Pro is sold through the App Store or Google Play, so Apple or Google handles your payment and we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to confirm that a subscription is active. RevenueCat receives the purchase record and a random identifier for your copy of the app. It does not receive your health data.
Notifications, photos and sharing
- Reminders are scheduled on your phone. Nothing is sent from a server, and you can turn each one off in the app.
- Photos: the app can save a postcard or share card to your library when you ask it to. It cannot see the photos already there.
- Sharing: when you share a card, it goes to the app you pick and is covered by that app’s privacy policy.
Analytics and advertising
The app contains no advertising and no analytics that leave your phone.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser makes a request to Google when a page loads. Like most websites, our server keeps a basic access log (IP address, time and the page requested) for security.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything Summit Steps has stored. Your steps themselves stay in Apple Health or Health Connect, under your control, and you can withdraw the app’s permission there at any time.
Children
Summit Steps is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before the change ships, with a new date at the top.
